WEAVE Silken Roots Artist in Residence at Macc College. Supported by Barnaby Festival.
Using both the history of silk and its roots in Macclesfield to explore the threading together of ancient and modern, community and culture, history and myth. Unearthing local materials, skills and stories, this exhibition is a co-creation with the community and Macc College by Grace McLoughlin, a graduate artist from St. Martins School of Art. Includes a public talk by the artist about the project’s journey.
Exhibition will be located at The Copper Room in Charles Roe House from 15th-24th June 2018.
The Artist talk will take place at the exhibition at 5pm 16th June 2018.
Free Lego Robotics Workshop (Macclesfield Town Hall)
This is for 8-11 year olds at 10am on Saturday 16th June 2018, sponsored by TTGames (based in Knutsford & Wilmslow).
Create your LEGO robots in a workshop by Junior STEM. You’ll be helped to use software to bring your creations to life using sensors, motors, lights and more. *Some assembly required. 28 free kids places available (a parent must accompany) on a first come first served basis for 8-11 year old children.
*A later 1pm session is reserved for finalists of the TTGames “Design a Games Character” for Key Stage 2 children.*

As part of the SHIFT Digital Year of Making, the Weave Town Talks series programme of events will brought high profile sector leaders to the region, to stimulate debate and discourse on the creative and digital sector, and to raise the profile of these industries in Cheshire East. Hosted by Weave, the Creative and Digital Network, which champions the sector. SHIFT – www.shift-digital.co.uk – a vibrant and interactive programme celebrating all things digital in Cheshire East.
Our first Town Talk took take place on 4th May at Macclesfield Town Hall, focussed on the games sector, with over 100 people attending.
TownTalk 2 addressed how incubator space could be established in Cheshire East, taking inspiration from case-studies of other successful initiatives elsewhere in the country.
TownTalk 3 was focussed on digital skills and included case studies from BBC Digital, Barclays PingIt app and McCann.
TownTalk 4 featured the renowned designer Wayne Hemingway with over 200 people attending to hear Wayne talking about how he has delivered groundbreaking and inspirational urban regeneration projects.
TownTalk 5 was held as part of the Design Manchester Festival and was focussed on helping creative businesses maximise their intellectual property and source fresh income streams.
TownTalk 6 – IdeasPlace, took place on 13th February and focused on how to grow place-making opportunities for creative talent in Cheshire East, book here. This event was a follow-on from the CONVERGENCE: SHIFT and WEAVE Symposium – more details here.
