Hilary is the Managing Director of Sigma, a user experience company based in Macclesfield and Cambridge but part of the larger, Swedish-owned Sigma IT Consulting Group AB. Since founding the company 10 years ago, Hilary has built a team of user researchers, designers, developers and consultants, who all put people at the heart of digital solutions. Specialising in usability and accessibility, Sigma offers a range of research, co-design, rapid prototyping, design and optimisation approaches to help clients build great websites, software products and apps: http://www.wearesigma.com/
Hilary’s own background is in content authoring and information architecture, working across sectors including medical statistics, occupational health and non-profit advisory bodies. Her passion is digital inclusion and the design of products and services for groups that may be harder to reach or under-represented. This has involved setting up specific research projects with academic partners, running hackathons around social problems, or facilitating public events to help organisations understand the needs of specific audiences, and the opportunities they have to innovate. As well as managing the UK arm of Sigma, Hilary is a volunteer for Diversity Role Models, a charity seeking to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying in UK schools.
